About Us

Growing the Church

In March 2010, Growing the Church, a church growth institute within the Anglican Church of Southern Africa (ACSA) gathered together various organisations within ACSA - SOMA, New Wine, Iviyo, Soul Survivor, Provincial Youth - to seek the Lord, asking this question: "What does God want us to do together that we cannot do on our own?"

In prayer, they received pictures of renewal and revival and out of those images the name "Anglicans Ablaze" was born. Then in 2011 at KwaMashu, 80 leaders gathered to discern the way forward.

What is Anglicans Ablaze?

We are a group of organisations, previously, under the oversight of Bishop Tsietsi Seleoane, currently under the oversight of Bishop Dalcy Dlamini (Swaziland), within the Anglican Church of Southern Africa (ACSA) who desire to be set ablaze with God's love and power in order to build up the church and to serve God in the world. Every two years, we gather together for an international conference; and each year, various regional Anglicans Ablaze conferences are held throughout the province.

Largest Gathering of Anglicans

Anglicans Ablaze is the single largest gathering of Anglicans in the Anglican Church of Southern Africa. Come be inspired, renewed, equipped and encouraged in the faith. Come learn how to live "A Jesus-Shaped Life".

AA Movement

Anglicans Ablaze is a movement. If any diocese or province desires to hold its own Anglicans Ablaze conference, please contact Growing the Church for assistance.

Conferences

First Anglican's Ablaze Conference

In 2012, the first International Anglicans Ablaze Conference was held, and it was a huge success! More than 1400 people attended and returned home renewed and refreshed, inspired to grow in their faith and to reach out to others in Christ's love. Months later, people continued to talk about their experience at the 2012 conference.

This is what our own Archbishop has to say:
"When I reflect on our Anglicans Ablaze Conference, I feel my heart lifting within me at the generosity of God's love and grace to us during those few days. Whatever our church background, we all found ourselves moved by God's loving, tender touch and compelled to go forward in confidence, embracing the vision he has set before us."

–Archbishop Thabo Makgoba, Cape Town

Past & Present Conferences

The second International Anglicans Ablaze Conference took place in Johannesburg in July 2014; the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, was our featured speaker. In October 2016, the third International Anglicans Ablaze took place in Cape Town, and the fourth one is scheduled for 3-6 October 2018 in Durban.

The fourth International Anglicans Ablaze Conference took place in Natal 3-6 Oct 2018 about 2400 people attended. We had speakers like the Archbishop of South-East Asia, Moon Hing, Judge Leona Theron, a Concourt Judge, Mahlatse Mashua from RZIM and Sam Uys from ALPHA KZN.

The fifth Anglicans Ablaze took place as virtual international conference Thu 24 – Sat 26 Sept 2020, via Zoom.

The sixth Anglicans Ablaze conference went global. In 2021 the online Anglicans Ablaze conference involved the entire Anglicans Communion. Speakers shared from across the Globe. It was an amazing conference for all who attended, and can still be viewed on the Growing the Church YouTube channel.

From October 4th-7th 2023, the 7th Anglicans Ablaze conference took place at New Life Church, Bryanston, in the Diocese of Johannesburg. It was a hybrid conference in that people attended both in person and online.

There were a lot of firsts at AA2023! It was the first time the entire conference, both youth and adult, along with breakout talks were live streamed! It the first time we had breakout rooms for both the adult and youth sections (We had 10 breakouts running concurrently over 2 sessions, over a 2 day period). It was the first time we had a children’s section for Anglicans Ablaze! Well done to Revd Thabang and his team! It was the first time we had 7 music groups/choirs (including those from Zambia) leading worship at the conference! God did something huge through all the ministries at work at AA2023!
